Summary

In this third book in the Charlie Thorne series from bestselling author Stuart Gibbs, Charlie tracks down Cleopatra’s greatest treasure in Egypt。

Charlie Thorne is a genius。 Charlie Thorne is a renegade。 Charlie Thorne isn’t going down without a fight。

After tracking down incredible discoveries by Einstein and Darwin, Charlie is back。 This time, the great ruler Cleopatra has left behind an extremely valuable and powerful treasure, its location encoded on an ancient stone tablet。

In 30 BCE, Cleopatra and her husband, Marc Antony, lost their war against Octavian for control of the Egyptian Empire。 However, Cleopatra knew Octavian was really after the mysterious item that was the source of all her wealth and influence, so she hid it before committing suicide。 She left a series of devious clues behind for her children to find it, but they were lost to history…until now。

In a breathless adventure that takes her across the globe, Charlie must fight for her life against ruthless enemies, match wits with Cleopatra, and solve the two-thousand-year-old mystery to prevent the most powerful treasure of the ancient world from falling into the wrong hands。

I do like these and think they’re a fun MG series, but unfortunately by book 3, they’re starting to get extremely repetitive

The third in the Charlie Thorned series is truly as enjoyable as the first two - see other reviews。 I know that it's all made up and couldn't happen but it sure is fun believing that it could while reading it! Such a fun middle-grade read, this is my favorite one in the series!

It's funny, reading these books aloud to my kids, they always groan when it's a chapter centered on any character not Charlie (especially if it's a "bad guy" chapter)。 I think it is true that these other chapters are a little less engaging, but what that also tells me is how into the character of Charlie my kids are (especially my daughter)。 All of these books can feel rather long at times, but this is such a fun concept; both the genius teenage girl, and the "buried treasure" all these historic It's funny, reading these books aloud to my kids, they always groan when it's a chapter centered on any character not Charlie (especially if it's a "bad guy" chapter)。 I think it is true that these other chapters are a little less engaging, but what that also tells me is how into the character of Charlie my kids are (especially my daughter)。 All of these books can feel rather long at times, but this is such a fun concept; both the genius teenage girl, and the "buried treasure" all these historic geniuses left to be unearthed。 I think we're all looking forward to learning what Newton left behind! Also, thank goodness Dante and Milana are finally fully Charlie's allies。 She needs to not be constantly flying solo。 。。。more

I really liked it and all of the books in the series I think it's a fun and exiting concept where there is this 13 year old genius who sometimes still acts her age if that's teasing her half brother but still acts more like a 25 year old。 all in all this is a really good book and I would highly recommend this series。 I really liked it and all of the books in the series I think it's a fun and exiting concept where there is this 13 year old genius who sometimes still acts her age if that's teasing her half brother but still acts more like a 25 year old。 all in all this is a really good book and I would highly recommend this series。 。。。more

It was ok。 It felt almost exactly like every other Charlie Thorne book and the entire book kinda felt like it was just repeating its self over and over。 Like oh I found this clue so we have to go to Egypt then there they find another clue to then go to America and all of it while being chased。

I’m the third in my family to read this。 My kids devoured it。 They told me that it’s the best book in the series (so far)。 I completely agree。 We love Charlie Thorne and look forward to her next adventure! Write quickly, please!

Hilarious, amazing, glorious, exquisite, so well written! WHO CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE?!

I continue to be a big fan of this series which combines suspense, history, daring-do and humor。 Plus a very smart teenage girl protagonist。

Christopher Campbell

Amazing book!I would highly suggest this book to anyone。 The way Stuart Gibbs incorporates real historical information and different locations into his books while keeping the book interesting and adventurous is spectacular。 Can’t wait for the next one!

This book is a stroke of genius。 There are refreshing plot twists around every corner。 It is almost perfectly historically accurate。 Charlie Thorne’s genius is Stuart Gibbs’ genius。 Many more new and exciting characters are introduced, all of them with fresh and interesting backstories。 I find myself marveling at the small details that weave and intertwine into the story。 In short, this was an amazing book (series), and you won’t want to miss it。

Donna

YA / Middle gradeAdventure, villains, fast-paced plot。Lots of history and geography mixed in with some sleuthing on Charlie’s part。Some violence (shootings, acid, poison, fall off a cliff)- might make it unsuitable for some students。

Charlie is back for a third adventure hunting down long-lost treasures。 This time she’s after Cleopatra’s treasure which takes her on a whirlwind trip through Egypt, Greece, and Italy。

Charlie Thorne is once again on her own, and she’s decided to find out what Cleopatra left behind over two thousand years ago。 To do so, she needs to slip into the apartment of a rich Egyptian playboy。 Naturally, things don’t go as planned, and Charlie finds herself being chased by not only the man’s security, but several different countries’ agents。 Can she dodge them and still find what Cleopatra left behind? This series has a couple of issues for me。 One is Charlie, who can come across as a pe Charlie Thorne is once again on her own, and she’s decided to find out what Cleopatra left behind over two thousand years ago。 To do so, she needs to slip into the apartment of a rich Egyptian playboy。 Naturally, things don’t go as planned, and Charlie finds herself being chased by not only the man’s security, but several different countries’ agents。 Can she dodge them and still find what Cleopatra left behind? This series has a couple of issues for me。 One is Charlie, who can come across as a perfect character for far too long。 Eventually, we do see some weaknesses, but it takes a while。 I suspect this is something that adults will pick on more than kids do。 Then there’s the data dumps。 We need some of that information to have the context for the action, but it can get to be a bit much。 However, overall, I do like these books, and this one in particular。 There are plenty of action sequences and twists。 I’m curious where the series is going to go from here。 I like the core cast, yes, even Charlie。 And I mentioned the action, right? Fans of good stories will enjoy this book。Read my full review at Carstairs Considers。 。。。more

Impeccable bookI loved this book, it was fun and exciting, but better yet, it was thrill-enducing! I got really hooked up in it。 I would recommend this to people who like history, adventure and possibly mystery。

I love listening to the Charlie Thorne books。 I hope the narrator continues with all of the books in the series。 Stuart Gibbs has a hit with Charlie Thorne。 So much action and critical thinking by Charlie。 Really makes me want to look up more information about Cleopatra and all her hidden secrets。

Maybe I’m just a 74 year old young adult, but I loved this Charlie Thorn adventure and am looking forward to the next one。 Find your inner teen and enjoy this thriller。 Even the writing is good!

Charlie Thorne just gets better and better。 I love the research and detail and don't understand how it to not boring to have so much information doled out by the main character, but it's not。 It's exciting and fascinating and you keep thinking "why didn't I know that?" Very exciting and honestly, a great set up for the series to just keep going on and on。 Charlie Thorne just gets better and better。 I love the research and detail and don't understand how it to not boring to have so much information doled out by the main character, but it's not。 It's exciting and fascinating and you keep thinking "why didn't I know that?" This series is ridiculous, but I am still here for it。 What did I think? So far, my favorite book in the series is the second book, but that is majorly due to how I thought it was like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull。 Plus, the second book did not have Mossad, which increased the ridiculous factor。 Mossad is back along with THREE other antagonist groups/people。 The third group was nuts and I felt a bit ashamed by this group or should I said person for he told this group to go a This series is ridiculous, but I am still here for it。 What did I think? So far, my favorite book in the series is the second book, but that is majorly due to how I thought it was like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull。 Plus, the second book did not have Mossad, which increased the ridiculous factor。 Mossad is back along with THREE other antagonist groups/people。 The third group was nuts and I felt a bit ashamed by this group or should I said person for he told this group to go after two characters and permanently end another。 THAT is ridiculous onto itself and I was like "REALLY?!" when that tidbit was revealed。 I am still not sure I like Charlie。 There is something about her that rubs me the wrong way。 Maybe it is her attitude or how she treats Dante? I also think Charlie is a bit presumptuous to think she would never be persuaded to use the scientific discoveries for the wrong reasons。 She also had a National Treasure Ben Gates moment somewhat early on in the book, which I thought that is what it was and yet she played like it was actually true。 I am glad it was a fake out like what Ben Gates did with the lanterns in National Treasure。 DanteWhile this book did some work to make Charlie closer to Dante, I am still not satisfy。 Dante is not a bad guy。 Sure, he blackmailed his younger sister to working with the CIA, but she did leave him behind TWICE! She maybe a capable kid, but she is still a kid。 She is like Damian Wayne in that regard。 They are both very capable kids that should not have to take on the whole world。 Dante is like the Dick Grayson to Charlie's Damian Wayne。 CleopatraSome of the information revealed in this book I felt I knew, like her leadership capabilities or at the very least it was not surprising to me。 With that said, I wished their was a bibliography for the factual information。 I also would like some more information about whether Cleopatra's curse was about her sex。 Plus, may I remind people that maybe the reason people think of Cleopatra as only seductress is because that is how she is portrayed in movies? Most people are not going to crack open a book and get more information about someone let alone Cleopatra, if there are a lot of movies out there that seem to depict a believable person。 Speaking of Factual InformationI question the accuracy of the information。 Charlie said Eratosthenes came with the "exact" measurement of the Earth (circumference)。 False! He was actually off, but he WAS not off by that much。 He said the Earth was 252,000 stades or 24,662 miles, but he was actually about 200 miles off (Laskey, Kathryn, The Librarian Who Measured the Earth 1994)。 That is still achievement with only math and human walkers。 The EndingThe ending had a Red flavored end。 When I mean Red, I mean the movie starring Bruce Willis。 The target audience should not understand the reference, but that what the end reminded me of。 I also feel uneasy how Dante and Milana's job situation was left。 Verdict: While I thought it was ridiculous and I question the factual information, this series is pretty entertaining。 。。。more

It's anyone's guess in this fast-paced mystery。Fans of Stuart Gibbs who have already experienced Charlie's abilities in past adventures will continue to be thrilled by her trademark smarts and sarcasm - while also enjoying growing depth in this leading character。 Readers who are new to the Charlie Thorne series will be able to grasp the storyline presented in Charlie Thorne and the Curse of Cleopatra, too, and are guaranteed to be grabbing the first books in the series to access the story's origin。I believe I once read that Stuart Gibbs has targeted this series for readers who are a little older than his Spy School, Space Case, and FunJungle fans。 Action sequences involve more dangerous situations most would find appropriate for middle school readers that are typical of series like Alex Rider, City Spies, and I,Q。 Students with an interest in ancient Egypt will immediately be drawn in through the prologue's backstory and the other ancient sites showcased as part of the action will continue to keep their interest。 I was fascinated by the information Gibbs included about our calendar! Charlie Thorne may have found a kindred spirit in Cleopatra - and with a tease about another famous mystery to be solved, I'm excited to see what this series will offer next!Charlie Thorne and the Curse of Cleopatra 。。。more

Another fun, action-packed treasure hunt for Charlie Thorne! This new adventure is just as fun as the others she has been on。 Don't tell the kids that there is just enough history involved in these books that they might learn something! Of course, Gibbs has a way of choosing what historical facts to use that will not be boring。 Why not have people hiding behind the ruins of an ancient latrine? (And explain how they were used!) Young readers will certainly find that hilarious/gross/fascinating!Al Another fun, action-packed treasure hunt for Charlie Thorne! Charlie Thorne and the Curse of Cleopatra by Stuart Gibbs is book 3 in the Charlie Thorne series。 This author is so talented, writing multiple series that captivate kids。 This book is no exception。 Here, you will find danger and intrigue and all set in Egypt。 I adored everything about this book。 I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations。 These opinions are entirely my own。

Good book, strange time passagesI have enjoyed this series since it came out, but as it has gone on it has begun to rely too heavily on the main three characters。 The plans Charlie have are far too convenient and her being unable to fail at all take away from the book。 As well as this the whole part of going on a boat from Europe to New York as well as racing with Semel and co。 who employ planes didn't work。 How they went on a boat got to New York and saved the day was very rushed and strange to Good book, strange time passagesI have enjoyed this series since it came out, but as it has gone on it has begun to rely too heavily on the main three characters。 The plans Charlie have are far too convenient and her being unable to fail at all take away from the book。 As well as this the whole part of going on a boat from Europe to New York as well as racing with Semel and co。 who employ planes didn't work。 How they went on a boat got to New York and saved the day was very rushed and strange to read。 The timing didn't make sense。 However as with every Stuart Gibbs book it was an enjoyable read with funny characters and deep insight。 。。。more
